Tigercon is a free one-day anime convention held at Towson University in Baltimore. This year, Tigercon was on September 26th, so it has passed. However, it was very successful, and will probably occur again in the coming year (this year was only it's second year).
This year, there were two panel rooms, two anime viewing rooms, an area for musical performances, and a main event hall. There was also a combination dealer's room and artist's alley which spread through the three floors of the student union, which is where the con was held on campus. There is a cafe in the student union where food can be purchased for reasonable prices (everyone knows con food is often ridiculously overpriced).
I had a great time. According to statistics, there were only about a thousand people in attendance, but I swear it seemed more like five hundred. However, there were a lot of truly spectacular cosplay, and some of the events (Rare Candy concert, Geek Comedy Tour, Masquerade, Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged Panel) were quite excellent. It is also much more laid back than Otakon and Katsucon, which are the other conventions I frequent. I had a lot of time to just network with people and converse with the artists and dealers. All in all, it's a great experience, and FREE. People should consider going next year.
There is even an official website although it seems to be in hibernation until next year. Check it around July, when it should become active.
